Cockadoodledoo! Mr. Turkey, here's to you!
The holiday has come, we smile...Thanksgiving... Norman Rockwell style!
White table cloths with silver gleaming, the kitchen's all a-buzz and steaming!
'Tis time to gather, pray and feast, (sorry Tom, you're the chosen beast)!
We dote on you, then raise our drink, hungry, grateful, clinkedy-clink!
Then mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie and splashes of gravy start to fly!
Cranberries, corn and squash galore, dishes rotate faster, more!
Comotose, and filling fast, yet platters continue to be passed!
Finally crowing, "We're stuffed, we're done! I can't walk, but I need to run!"
Our belts unhooked, deflect the zing of buttons popping, "Ting! Ting! Ting!"
Someone remarks, "turkey's unfair"... so Mother Hen starts planning a meatless affair!
Veggie burgers, seitan, tofu, lots of kale, a bean-y stew?
Sweet potatoes dripping in oil, an "eggplant-something" beneath tin foil!
Enough! Be in the here and now, not focused on next year's menu, sans cow.
Rather let's all stop, review...what we cherish, who we knew.
Admire the colors on the trees, count your blessings, not calories!
Say a prayer, send a wish, give a hug, land a kiss!
Compliment, apologize, put down devises, look into eyes...
Then... fetch more cool whip, forks and pie!
Happy Thanksgiving...make it meaningful!
