Currently playing with alcohol inks and their reaction when applied to acrylic...the results are so bold and amazing! Some of these combinations will be in my upcoming show at Highline Coffee, in Worthington, Ohio opening Saturday, September 8th, 2-4pm.!
Saturday, April 21st, I had the opportunity to join fellow Pen Women, (from L to R)Brenda Laymen, Renate Fackler and Rosalie Unger in an Artists & Writer's Panel Discussion, where we shared our writing and artistic processes and discussed our collaborative work that will remain on exhibition at The Works, in Newark, through July.
Rosalie Unger and I showcase our collaboration, "Guardian Angels", acrylic and paper collage with security envelopes and both of our prescription inserts!
My additional piece, "Bald is Beautiful", Acrylic and paper collage on canvas with security envelopes and my prescription inserts; Rosalie's piece showcasing her published book, collaged with editor's edits!

"Giddy", Acrylic and paper collage on wood, 12"x12, $350
I live my life in spurts, or rather there seems to be an ebb and flow, admittedly sometimes positive and sometimes negative! When I was going through cancer treatment from the Fall of 2015 and into the bleak winter months of 2016, my creativity was as drained as my energy. Now that both have returned, my mind keeps turning to the subject of roses when I'm in the studio creating. I started painting in acrylic back in January, out of a need for vibrancy. Those who share my hometown of Columbus, Ohio can attest to the long, bleak, gray winters that seem to drag on endlessly!
Every time I looked outside my window for inspiration I was met with the color of dirty concrete. Ugh! I needed a change of pace! I was craving color! Color that my typical soft watercolors couldn't provide. I needed bold, thick, happy color!
I have found a certain joy in painting and collaging on wood panels, working small for now. "Giddy" is a compilation of acrylic and the paper from the interior of security envelopes. The dots make me think of champagne bubbles. It is the second in what is becoming a series based on my return to creativity post cancer.

"Undercurrent", Acrylic, paper collage on wood panel, 10"x10, $400
This piece is a statement on how one feels going through a cancer diagnosis, putting on the front that everything is just fine, just rosy, but if you look beneath the surface you find another realm, reality, world (depicted by the underwater colors and school of pink fish). This too incorporates the interiors of security envelopes, which for me, is a small way to fight back against the overwhelming clutter that accumulates from receiving mail!

My husband and I recently ran over to Grandview to check out the current exhibit at the Ohio Craft Museum, entitled, On the Page- The Book as Art. It was wonderful! It will remain up through August 23rd, so I HIGHLY recommend you stop in and check it out!

While my photography doesn't do these justice...the book on the top shelf is set within two halves of a harmonica...truly you need to see it up close...beautiful!
The one on the second shelf is just so fun!
I love the simplicity and hand stitching on this one...I was dying to touch this one.
THIS ONE IS AMAZING!!! Again, you can't tell from this photo, but the pink tones of this dress is created by tiny, tiny, cursive/sanskrit writing in red ink!!! Again, a must-see in person!!
The black paper butterflies are wonderful...
So, if in or near Columbus, I encourage you to check out this exhibit of interesting books as art, created by US artists as well as members of the Santa Fe Book Arts Group! The Ohio Craft Museum is a gem of a resource, not only for wonderful exhibits, but they also house a gift shop boasting some wonderful artwork from local artists, as well as hosting a terrific summer camp for kids, where teachers, artists and experts in a variety of mediums come in and lead small hands-on day camp sessions! The Ohio Craft Museum is also home to The Ohio Designer Craftmen, the arts organization behind the Winterfair events in Columbus and Cincinnati. Check it out...www.ohiocraft.org
